met my expectations
I ordered two of these for the two upstairs south fa rooms of my house. Both units came packaged well, but one looked like it might be a return. There was no ruin on the unnew unit other than 4 cracks in the exhaust hose which duct tape took be enamoured of of, and there was no plastic film overlay to protect the control panel from scratches. Take off 1 star. That said, there is no perceptible difference in the performance of the two units. The window vent kits mounted easily, and the units do a reliable job of keeping the rooms cool. Matter of fact, the smaller of the two rooms actually got too distant until I turned the thermostat up. The units are not quiet, but bearable and much quieter than the in-window units I was ordinary to as a child. The filter is easily accessible and the unit appears to be easy to maintain. One reviewer complained about an supplementary intake filter being inaccessible unless you take the unit apart; this is so, but it's not listed as a required prolongation item. It's a screen on the side of the unit that I intend to vacuum periodically - I will report back if that doesn't do the subterfuge. Draining the water is not a task I relish, but it's more convenient on this unit than a larger portable a/c from another industrialist which I have cooling the family room. This unit can't compete with a central air system, but at 1/4 the price of important air for 3 portable units, we're enjoying this summer in relatively cool comfort. I may report back after I see the first stirring bill.

Air conditioner was a spark of life saver ...
I purchased the SPT WA-9020E air conditioner when my middle system cratered. I put the SPT in my office. It works very well. There is one thing that must be done, however. I had to port the water outlet hose to the front because Houston is very humid and the unit created a LOT of water. After I got tired of emptying my container, I purely drilled a hole in the window barricade and ran a small rubber hose to the outside. This section has done a yeoman job from the beginning!

hose too minuscule
I fancy I assumed that portable AC units would be portable beyond 6 feet from the window. Clearly these products are meant for situations where a window unit cannot be employed because of the window and the weight it can support.
The exhaust hose is actually 8 ft long and does not allow you to place the unit between two rooms or move it around the house as needed (because you would desperate straits to connect it to a different window) - which is what I thought they were.
Buyer beware...if you intended to use it as it is intended, works fine. The unit is a little large, but it does pump out a lot of cool air.

Not recomended
This note is not worth it. It takes hours to cool down my 100 sq ft room. I have a 5,000 btu window item that kicks butt compared to this one. Also, not convenient at all. You need to place a drip pan underneath to comprehend the water and it only allows a 1" space at the base. I had to build a 4" platform to void the unit high enough to sit a basin at the bottom to catch all the drip without having to empty it every 1 1/2 hours.

Wavering
It blows somewhat cooled air which even on high takes a bit to lower the room temp barely at all. Also, the water tray fills within a few hours of match if I don't have it going somewhere (which I now do), and I don't even live in all that humid of a climate. Water is not easily removed either, have to let it out the pipe.
As has been said, if it is at all plausible to use a window unit, do so. I have crank outs so it sadly wan't for me.

not very economic, made room temp rise, pulling air from hot attic
I did a lot of examination on portable ac units and this one was one of the above average rated ones, but it did not cool the my room (20' X 15') because it sucked hot air from the roof space and surrounding areas and made the room hotter. It made the room drier, but it raised the temp in place of of cooling it.
Pros:
price
12.11 EER rating, very efficient
6 amps, low amps wont globe-trot breaker
60 lbs. light weight compared to other portable ac units
Cons:
creates adversative air pressure, sucks hot air in from attic and other areas
54 dB rating, noisy
If you have no choice but to buy a portable ac, buy one with 2 hoses. It gets the air from casing and cools the evaporator and blows hot air outside. It does not create a negative pressure (sucking make), this drawing of air from the outside makes the room hotter, especially if you have it installed near an roof space.
Will be returning unit and getting a casement window unit which is much quieter, efficient and less period hog on the floor.

Priceless fan
I have a man cavern in my backyard that was once a low income housing unit, then a big shed when I remodeled it. This cave is 13 ft as much as possible by around 28 ft long and is very well insulated and in the very cold winter months is easily heated with a 40 dollar margin heater. I decided to buy this A/C because I have two windows that are not window AC accessable and this one was a little cheaper than others. The mounting kit works very well, I was very please with this. Eat one's heart out story short, this AC does not have the power to cool this room, the air that is blows does not even crave that cold. I wish I would have installed an A/C through my wall instead or spent a little more for a more powerfull constituent. Would probably work ok for a small bedroom because it is not that loud as well.

Stunning Appliance!
Let me start off by stating the circumstance that inspired my purchasing this spin-off. I live in Louisiana, which is one of the most humid states in the nation. The central air unit in the apartment I fare in has a freon leak due to maintenance overflowing the compressor with it which lessens the amount of cool air it can release. The proprietress (landowner) does not want to front the funds to replace it, and naturally, with temperatures these days in the mid and elevated 90s, my apartment can get pretty hot. So, I started checking around for portable air conditioners when a friend suggested I do so, and I stumbled onto the by-product page for the SPT WA-7500M 7,500 BTU Portable AC with Manual Controls. After doing a little dig into, this item had pretty good reviews with a few lesser ones here and there. Taking a chance, I went winning and bought it, and let me tell you, I don't regret it one bit!
SETUP
The SPT WA-7500M is very easy to get set up. All you have to do is connect the hose to the item and to the window slider kit (which can be extended either horizontally or vertically depending on your window type). Be precise though, for what holds everything in place are small screws that if you drop accidentally can be very tedious to find. Next, place the colander into the unit, then you're ready to go!
OPERATION
Let me say that with it being 7500 BTUs, it can work effectively for a room no larger than 200 sq. ft. (where the room I have it in is about 150 sq. ft.). Any stay larger than that, then you may want to consider purchasing one with a higher BTU rating. Otherwise, this product will do fine. It has three nobs which check various things, as well as four LED indicators that signal whether it has power (from the outlet), if fan operation is working, if cooling is turned on, and if the dampen tank (collects the moisture in the air as it cools the room) needs emptying. The three nobs in check the thermostat, fan operation, and timer (where the max time is 8 hours). I set the thermostat to about one bar shy of its coolest setting, set the fan efficacious to low cool, and set the timer to 8 hours. It ran beautifully. I could feel the temperature in the room drop very steadily, and the latitude reached a very comfortable temperature for me in about three hours, which is fascinating since my central air cannot do that in 24! When the timer reached 8 hours, the segment shut down completely on its own. I did not have to turn any nobs or anything, for it handle that step itself.
Overall, I have had a great observation with this product. I recommend it to anyone who has a small room that you could use a cooling boost for added comfort.

Melodious much does what it is advertised to do. I solved the drain pan problem by tubing it out the wall in a permanent shape with a combination of tygon tubing and aluminum tubing so that it will self drain.

In the most suitable way I've owned
Before buying a pocket air conditioner, it helps to understand what you can expect and not expect from it. There is no way it will provide the cooling of central air, ductless air or even a absolutely good window unit. I have owned all of these and speak from experience. However, when you move into a condo with all kinds of restrictions about what can be identifiable from the exterior or constraints on the architectural structure, then the portable is the best answer.
I have owned 4 of these and three particular brands. My condo has three separate major spaces, 2 smaller for bedroom followers and office/den. The main living space is larger than the max recommended for any 120 volt item, and that is where I now have the Soleus LX140.
The two smaller spaces are cooled with GE 10,000 BTU units that I have had for 5 years. HE quit making these units the year after I bought them They are calm and have held up and keep the spaces in the upper 70s when the ambient temperature is in the mid 90s.
I used to have and Edgestar in the main seat. I live in the Seattle area so only need the cooling about 2 months a year, and then not every day. The Edgestar was the worst constituent I have ever owned. It was the noisiest unit and it quit in the middle of the second season. I called the producer in Texas and they said it only had a 90 day warranty. They also said they had no service reps in the Pacific NW and couldn't lift. After lengthy searching, I found one person who said they fixed them. After spending over $300, it still didn't drudgery. The service tech said he would take it to the shop and return it in "New Condition." That was a year ago and I have never seen him or the component again.
So I bought the Soleus. I found a dealer in Portland where I knew I could get to if needed. The manufacturer is in California, I can get there fetching easily too. Also, the Soleus has a 1 year warranty. I ordered the unit and it was delivered in 7 days. I set it up in a second but found that you had to use the remote to turn on the fan oscillator. It had to be the receiver or the transmitter, but I didn't know how to tell. I called the vendor, and within a few hours I got a call back from the manufacturer. They said they would send a new remote. If it still didn't work, they would send a ticket and an RMA. I got the remote in three days and everything worked.
The Soleus runs about 10 db quieter than the Edgstar. My line living space is oversizrd with 594 square feet and with partial cathedral ceilings giving about 5565 cubic feet. I am on the top make fall, facing southwest with ceiling to floor glass across the entire space. Without any AC, the space has reached 110 degrees when it was 95 face in the late afternoon. Also, there are no opening windows or sliding doors, so I am venting the unit up the fire embarrass flu.
This week we had three days in the 90's. When it reached 98 degrees outside, the Soleus maintained the lapse at 81. When the temperature reached 85 today, the Soleus maintained the space in the mid 70s.
CONS: The only con I have at this property irrelevant is that the fan oscillation is vertical instead of side to side. I'm not sure I understand the reasoning for that. Cold air settles and hot air rises so a unalterable upward blast that oscillated die to side makes better sense to me. My GEs do that very effectively.
As for evaporation, I have had it uninterrupted for fiv continuous days without a drop of water coming from the drain. Of course the Seattle tract has relatively low dew points. In areas like the midwest, east coast or south east, there may be more of a question.
The next test will be longevity as to how long it will hold up. However, at this time, the Soleus LX140 has proven to be the vanquish unit of its type that I have used and I am very impressed with the technical service assistance of the manufacturer.

Soleus LX-140 pocket air conditioner
I have had the LX-140 for a few months now. I alight in a 700 square foot apartment. While my apartment is MUCH larger than the BTU rating on the unit, the LX-140 has proven itself to be a talented work horse in cooling my apartment. Since a BTU rating of 12,000 BTU is only expected to properly purposive about 450 square feet, I have been amazed at how cold the LX-140 has gotten my place. With the act that the unit can be programmed to shut down and start up when you want it to (a great power saver, and soothe feature) I would HIGHLY recommend this unit to anyone who is seriously looking for a reliable machine that will get together with their needs. While I cannot say that if you put the LX-140 in a oversized room, it will always cool it to your liking, I can say with great confidence that placed in a 450 honest foot place it would do VERY well.

Soleus - don't disconcert away your money
I paid $600 for Soleus PH4-12R shirt-pocket a/c + heatpump. I was very happy for about three months, seemed to perform to specs. I even posted a very favorable review. But then it revealed it's sincere colors.
After about 3 months the blower developed a rubbing or bearing noise, transforming the component to near intolerable.
After 5 months the unit simply went dead, not even any lights on the wheel. Yes, wall outlet has power.
Soleus warranty requires me to ship unit two directions to CA for promise service. Troublke is, warranty does not cover shipping. After an estimate to pack for shipping = $50, and shipping the 100# element two directions by UPS for $150 each, my "warranty" repair is $350. They have no service centers except their factory.
If I ship back, I will have invested $950 in this segment which has already proven it has no reliability. And there is no guarantee that they will not find some arcane reason to honor the warranty, despite my cost for shipping.
The warranty is a complete ripoff since they use no standard national network - a key question when you contemplate a large item has a good warranty. Ask to be sure before purchase.
STAY AWAY FROM SOLEUS!

THIS IS A DUAL HOSE Portion!!!!
I debate with the previous 2 review scores. I also live in NYC, the basement studio apt of a brownstone. When I first moved in 2 years ago, the owners let me keep the dehumidifier that they kept down here because they admitted that it get's sultry with the lack of air circulation. My 3 horizontal slider windows are adjacent and small (3'x2'), and they are all condition on the same wall at the front of the studio. So, the air is terrible. There is also no radiators for heating. It's hot in the summer, cold in the winter, and clammy always (but it is very spacious & has a huge walk in closet & a separate ventilated laundry room... with the payment it's worth it :P) I ordered this unit because it was the only dual hose ac/dehumidifier/heater that was ideal for me (the Whynter models' hoses were too big for my window specimen and you had to remove the 2nd hose in dehumid mode, and the Sunpentown models were too pricey for the BTU's). I didn't even advised of this model was sold by Amazon, I found out about doing a bing search, Soleus didn't even have this mould on the website, which led me back to Amazon. It had everthing I wanted at the right price, but the reviews stalled my impulses. After further check in I found that SoleusAir doesn't even have this exact model on the website for some odd reason, but it has the models below it, the PH4-12R-01 & PH4-10R-01. All the PH4 models are dual hose. I binged the original number, and all the other online stores that sold it advertised as dual hose. It isn't advertised on Amazon as such, and the 1st reviewer, iSkyscraper, who didn't even foothold the device doesn't help either. However, iSkyscraper is 100% correct about portable units. His keen info helped me to better understand why I should by this unit... do not buy one without a dual hose. If you are looking for a dual hose ac/dehumidifier/range with great BTUs... this is the best you are going to get on Amazon.
So I have only had it for 24hours, but I have had it running for 24 hours... never shut down a exclude off... air is soooo much better now. I will come back and update in a week or so as I want to put it through the tests. It also has ignite pump technology which is just as signicant for winter as dual-hose is for summer. But as of honesty now... 5 stars!

Don't buy if you survive any place humid
I conclude in NYC and deal with hot humid summers. I bought the AC so I can move the unit from my living room to my bedroom with relax (to that extent--it was great) and -- more importantly-- so I didn't have to drain the tank (that collects moisture when dehumidifying a clammy room --- which most portables make you do).
Here are the issues:
1) The unit stops cooling and switches to "fan" when the tank is full (it's hypothetical to switch back when the water in the tank evaporates). Here's the issue--- the tank is full every THREE hours. So that means I courtesy on the AC before bed and wake up 3 hours later in a pool of sweat because the unit couldn't get rid of the moisture it imperturbable fast enough. SO I can wait for it to evaporate (mmmmm, ok) or I can drain the unit. Neither is a good option at 4am. But I all things considered drain...which leads me to....
2) The drain on the unit is about 1 inch from the floor. That means you need a pail that fits under the drain less than inch tall but that can hold liters of water. What this means---there is nothing that can propound the amount of water in the tank as it drains without it running all over the floor. So it's four am, I'm hot and trying to drain a system and have no container that can restrain the flow of water coming from the drain. Only a cookie sheet (yes, I resorted to a cookie page) fits under the drain and it obviously can't hold the volume of water.
3) Customer support urge "continuous draining" for humid places. So I buy a hose and hook it up, but because the drain is an inch from the bewilder, the hose directs up, not down....because there is no down (again, an inch from the floor) which results in spillage.
If you have any humidity--don't pain.

Get drano smell out of air conditioning vent?
Jul 03, 2007 by onebrightblue | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
My mom put an whole bottle of Drano in the kitchen sink yesterday and it didn't get the dig unclogged. So the Drano sat there overnight for a total of about 24 hours until the plumber could get about today. The entire first floor of the house smelled like Drano and exactly made me pass out, even with the windows open. (It was an Ace Hardware brand
First mutation the air filter on your unit. I wouldn't spray much else into the air for a day or so.
Also run plenty of water thru all your drains. Fill up the tub and sinks. After they are all full deliver the water so a big gush of water really cleans the drains right.

Looking for concrete slabs used for under air conditioner or water heaters-where to find?
Jan 14, 2009 by erickac | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
On a diynetwork show, they bought healthful slabs of concrete which are normally used under air conditioner units to use to colour the counter for an outdoor bar. They said that you can buy these slabs and that they cost about $25. I trace these would be great for another project, but I have searched everywhere(Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace and OSH) and
At $25.00 each, it may pay you to fathom your own, even if you have to make some forms and use some elbow grease to make them.
Would you mind stating what you programme to use them for? Just curious.
