    How long can I expect my Rheem heat pump/air conditioner to last for my home?

    This is a two-part doubt: 1) I don't know the first thing about air conditioning units, but a friend of mine told me residential air conditioners only last a top of 10-12 years. This seems like a pretty short lifespan for such an overpriced piece of equipment. Is he correct? 2) Also, is the heat pump a part unit from the air conditioner?

    1. 10-12 years is a low end calculate. AC equipment has an average lifespan of 10-20 years. The lower end materiel will have a shorter lifespan than the better stuff. I've seen heat pumps go out after 8 years and last as extensive as 18. It really depends on a regular schedule of maintenance, deployment of the equipment, and overall usage patterns.
